For entities carrying out activities involving the sale of products and the provision of services, including professional services, paragraph 4, Article 15 of Law Decree No. 179 of 18 October 2012 introduced the obligation to accept payments by cards without, however, providing for any type of sanction in the event of violation as of 2014.

Paragraph 1, letter b, Article 19-ter of Law Decree 152/2021, besides amending Law Decree 179/2012, introduced pecuniary sanctions in case of failure to accept a payment by credit card, prepaid card, debit card by the aforementioned parties. Instant wire transfers and application payments are not included.

The fine is of EUR 30, increased by 4% of the value of the transaction for which electronic payment was refused.

The entry into force of the pecuniary sanction, originally scheduled for 1 January 2023 has been brought forward to 30 June 2022 by Law Decree No. 36 of 30 April 2022.
