The EBA has updated its Single Rulebook with clarifications regarding the regime of Regulation (EU) No 575/2013 on prudential requirements for credit institutions and investment firms (CRR) as amended by Regulation (EU)2019/876 (CRR II).

The clarifications, in particular, concern the possibility of tightening European prudential requirements through national measures within the scope of the CRR.

EBA has published a Report on the platformisation of the EU banking and payments sector.

The Authority identifies a rapid growth in the use of digital platforms to ‘bridge’ customers and financial institutions, a trend expected to accelerate in line with the wider trend toward the digitisation of the EU financial sector.

Platformisation presents a range of potential opportunities for both EU customers and financial institutions. However, new forms of financial, operational, and reputational interdependencies are emerging and the EBA identifies steps to strengthen supervisory capacity to monitor market developments.

On this point, the EBA has identified a programme to support competent authorities in enhancing their understanding of business models based on digital platforms and their opportunities and risks.
